Hip Problems

This is where the cartilage that covers the bones like a cushion breaks down and the bones start to rub on each other causing the joints to deteriorate. It can make the hip joint stiff and painful and it is typically worse with weight bearing activities and in the mornings. There will usually be associated muscle tightness around the hip, groin, buttock and lower back. Gentle mobilisation of the joint, stretching and massage to relevent muscles,  and an increase in blood flow to the area can often help to improve the symptoms.




A bursa is a small sac of fluid that reduces friction between the tendons, ligaments and bone. There are many bursae in the hip and they can become inflammed through overuse, or through sports injury, or from having tight muscles around the bursa. Swelling is usually present and the area can be painful to touch.
